If you are considering commissioning an original painting by me, then please read this page. It will give you an idea about how my commissions process works, how I as an artist work and how we can work together to create an incredible work of art for your home or work space.
You should know that I particularly love working with clients to produce a painting that is perfect for them and I am honoured that you are considering me to create some art for you. I find the process very meaningful.
The following will give you a step by step run-down of how the my commissions process works. Please also feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have any other questions.
All the paintings you see here are commissions and will give you an idea of the scope and breadth of work that I can make for a bespoke painting. I have created small paintings for homes, very large paintings for commercial spaces many variations in between.
I do encourage you, however to have a good look around the art gallery pages on this website to get an idea of what direction you would like to go in for your painting. The more visual information you can give me the better!
Many clients contact me to create a painting for them after seeing work I have already created on social media or my website. In such cases, the commission process is usually fairly straightforward as I already have a clear idea of the kind of work you are after.
Other clients are looking for a specific kind of work that may not be represented clearly in my existing body of work and may be an amalgam of some or part of it. In such cases I’m happy to discuss your needs to see if I am the right person to produce the kind of work that you are after. If I feel that the scope of the painting you wish to create is not suited to my creative repertoire , I will let you know and will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction to another artist.
In all cases, an initial discussion is always invaluable, whether by phone, skype, email or in person (if possible). This initial discussion is free of charge so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
If the project is feasible for us both, I will then require you to send me exact measurements of the work(s) you require so I can prepare a quote.
The quoted cost of the painting will be determined by the size and style of the painting.
Shipping and framing, if required, are not included in this quote and will be billed separately at the completion of the commission.
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT
The quote will be delivered in the form of a tax invoice with a deposit/engagement fee listed at the bottom.
This amount is 1/3 of the overall cost of the work(s) and constitutes a non-refundable engagement fee to undertake your commission.
Once the deposit is paid, you will be booked into the next available spot in my commissions calendar and we will progress with finalising more detailed specifications and discussions about the work(s). This deposit will be deducted from the total cost of the completed work(s) upon completion.
Please do note that my commissions calendar is frequently booked from three to six months in advance, so please factor this into your plans and plan early if it is for a special occasion. I can appraise you of time-frames in your initial discussion.
If you decide not to accept the completed work(s), after a reasonable process of discussion and adjustment, then I will retain the deposit and the Painting(s). While I always endeavour to meet a clients specifications I will not undertake more than two rounds of discussion and minor adjustment per painting.
Please also note, that while I always try to adhere to delivery dates, art making is an unruly business and sometimes things do not go exactly to plan. In these cases I am grateful for your understanding and patience.
INFORMATION COLLECTION AND MOCK-UPS
In cases where the work(s) commissioned are not directly inspired by existing work, I will ask the you to provide me with some more detailed visual information to help me achieve the look and feel of the work you are after. Such information can be photographic, tactile, actual objects, whatever it is that captures the spirit of what you would like the work(s) to communicate.
I am happy to make site visit’s where necessary and if possible. Trips beyond a 25km radius of Ballarat will incur a standard fee to cover travel costs.
If necessary, I can also prepare mock-up’s of my interpretation of this information for approval before proceeding with the final work. is is not always necessary and is determined case by case.
Please note that while I do account for one mock-up/study that will loosly demonstrate the composition and feel of the work(s) in the initial quote, additional mock-up’s will incur an additional fee. All mock-up’s and studies remain the property fo the artist, but you may enquire about purchasing them.
Clients commissioning work for a commercial environment should know that I am able to prepare professional quality concept outlines and proposals for your artworks. In this case, the whole interior will be considered in preparing photographic mock-ups of the proposed work.
I retain all copyright of the commissioned work(s) and it may not be reproduced or used for commercial purposes without my permission. Please note that in most cases I am happy to grant this permission.
APPROVAL AND DELIVERY
Upon completion, the client will be sent photos for final approval. I will make any final touches as necessary within reason and in accord with my own artistic discretion.
A final invoice will then be issued. Once paid, then delivery can be arranged with my shippers.
Shipping and framing, if required, are not included in the initial or nal quote and will be billed separately for logistical reasons.
Clients are welcome to pick work up from my Ballarat Studio. Please do be sure to check the measurements ofthe work(s) and make sure will fit in your vehicle before proceeding with pick up!
Clients may also wish to consider if they would like to have the work framed before delivery. I am able to co-ordinate framing with my own supplier before shipping to your premises. Alternatively, you may wish to have the works shipped to a framer of your choice and have them deliver to you.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any other questions or would like to discuss your commission in more detail. All discussions are obligation free. I look forward to working with you!
