WITH MANY THANKS THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MY WORK
It’s always a huge honour for me to create bespoke artwork for a home or a work place. So if you are interested in commissioning a piece of art, thank you for considering me. I particularly love working with clients to produce a painting that is perfect for them and find the process quite meaningful.
In order to prepare a commission proposal and a quote, I will require a bit of information from you via email.
Firstly you will need to know what size you would like your work of art to be. I suggest to people who are having a problem visualising this to stick up on the wall some newsprint or other large pieces of paper in the place where you want your art to hang to figure out what looks best. Once you are happy with your dimensions, measure it, snap a picture of the space with your phone to send me so I can have an idea of where it is going to hang.
Secondly, I will need to know what style of work you are wanting. The easiest way is to show me, so either on your phone or computer, take some screen shots of the work that is most like what you are after. The best places to do this are on my Instagram (@susan.nethercote) or on my website (susannethercote.com). If what you are after is a combination of a few different paintings, then take screen shots of all of them, having a think about what you like best about them and also what you don’t like.
Then write me an email susan.nethercote@gmail with the following information:
1)Where you live (Country and city/town)
2) What exact measurements you would like your painting to be (I need this to be able to quote your canvas).
3) Weather your canvas will be Portrait or Landscape in orientation
4) Attach the screenshots you took
5) Write me a little description of what you would like and specifically what you like about the images you’ve attached. You might want to mention things like colours, composition and imagery.
Send me the email and I will get back to you with a proposal and a quote/ engagement invoice as soon as possible. This might take a couple of weeks and you will either hear from myself or my studio assistant.
If you would like to have a phone chat about your commission at any stage, please let me know and that can be arranged.
OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
I book clients into my commission’s calendar only after their engagement deposit has been made. This deposit is 1/3 of the full cost of the painting and is non-refundable. An invoice for this will be included with your quote. The sooner you pay it, the sooner you will get your painting. This deposit will be deducted from the total cost of the painting(s) upon completion.
I have a waitlist of 3- 6 months for commissions. So if your commission is for a special occasion please let me know so that I can see if it can be done in the timeframe available.
Framing is also not included but can be arranged for you prior to delivery for a fee. This will be billed separately.
Shipping is not included in this initial quote and will be billed separately as they need to be handled on a case-by-case basis
International clients and those from remoter parts of Australia should know that, larger canvases may need to be removed from its stretcher bars and shipped rolled. Our canvases are built especially to accommodate this possibility and are easily dismantled and re-stretched at the destination. You may also choose to have it shipped to your framer and have them take care of it for you.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me firstname.lastname@example.org
INFORMATION COLLECTION AND MOCK-UPS
In cases where the work(s) commissioned are not directly inspired by existing work, I will ask the you to provide me with some more detailed visual information to help me achieve the look and feel of the work you are after. Such information can be photographic, tactile, actual objects, whatever it is that captures the spirit of what you would like the work(s) to communicate.
I am happy to make site visit’s where necessary but they are billed at an hourly rate. Trips beyond a 25km radius of Ballarat will incur a standard fee to cover travel costs.
If necessary, I can also prepare mock-up’s of my interpretation of this information for approval before proceeding with the final work. It is not always necessary and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Please note that while I do account for one mock-up/study that will loosly demonstrate the composition and feel of the work(s) in the initial quote, additional mock-up’s will incur an additional fee. All mock-up’s and studies remain the property of the artist, but you may enquire about purchasing them.
Clients commissioning work for a commercial environment should know that I am able to prepare professional quality concept outlines and proposals for your artworks. In this case, the whole interior will be considered in preparing photographic mock-ups of the proposed work.
I retain all copyright of the commissioned work(s) and it may not be reproduced or used for commercial purposes without my permission.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any other questions or would like to discuss your commission in more detail. All discussions are obligation free. I look forward to working with you!
